Google and Facebook with caches hosted at the ITA Data Center

Paratus Africa Group - DC-ITA-GOOGLE

ITA – Internet Technologies Angola, in partnership with AAI (Angolan Internet Association), recently activated Facebook caching at the ITA Data Center. This is another important step, in addition to the recent activation of Google caching by ITA at the same Data Center.

In accordance with the strategic plan of the partnership between ITA and AAI, signed with the activation of the second interconnection node for providers and servers, designated Angola IXP and installed in the ITA Data Center, Google's cache was activated last February and Facebook's cache was activated this April.

Attracting caches such as those from Google and Facebook to Angola was a process that we began last year with Angola IXP, and it does not end here. This was confirmed by Túlio Jacinto, Executive Director of Operations at ITA. "The goal of this investment is to contribute to improving the internet ecosystem in Angola and reducing internet costs for operators, especially AAI members. Hosting these caches in a data center like ours, which offers international specifications and excellent hosting, security, and connectivity conditions, is an important step toward transforming and improving the digital business environment and the quality of internet services in Angola."

Engineer Sílvio Almada, President of AAI, reinforces this by saying that "these caches, now activated and operational at the ITA Data Center, will improve internet quality and provide a better experience for users who enjoy Google and Facebook services."

Having these international services and content hosted in the country brings technical and economic benefits to the telecommunications community in Angola. These steps are fundamental to creating dynamism in connectivity, one of the important premises for Angola's transformation into a Data Hub in Africa, reinforced Túlio Jacinto of ITA.

These and other contacts have been made by partners with major global content producers and aggregators, with a view to improving the technological environment in Angola in terms of digital content distribution and enabling operators and providers of digital content and services to benefit from a telecommunications services network in Angola that could soon benefit the region in Africa.

The most important and distinguishing feature of this approach is the fact that we are taking steps together, seeking to achieve the objectives of the whole, with ultimate benefits for the entire internet community in the country.
