Core Network Manager

Paratus Telecommunications currently has an internal vacancy for a Core Network Manager in Windhoek.

The position entails:

  • Lead, mentor and manage the Core (IP/Fiber Network Engineering) team, including performance management of line reports.
  • Lead the design, deployment and day-to-day operation of core and access network infrastructure (IP/MPLS, DWDM, GPON, P2P/P2MP Microwave, LTE).
  • Own end-to-end performance and capacity management of the core network — monitoring, trending, forecasting and triggering proactive upgrades.
  • Own the IP/Fiber network capex and opex budget, planning and controlling spend on infrastructure expansion, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships, contracts and SLAs for core network hardware, software and services.
  • Own escalation management for high-severity core network incidents, ensuring rapid resolution and effective root-cause analysis.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for major customer-impacting network issues, coordinating with NOC, Sales and Field Services.
  • Ensure network operations meet company standards, security, compliance and regulatory requirements.

The minimum requirements and skills for the position are as follows:

  • Self-managed, analytical, risk-aware, and a strong leader and team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across technical teams, senior management, EXCO and customers.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Service Provider network engineering, including IP/MPLS, DWDM, GPON, P2P/P2MP Microwave and LTE technologies.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a team leadership/management role, or as a senior technical lead managing junior engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of network design, performance and capacity management, and major vendor hardware (e.g. Cisco, Infinera, Fortinet).
  • Budgeting, vendor management and project governance experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, IT or a related discipline (or equivalent experience); Cisco CCNP or equivalent (CCIE preferred).
  • Project management and/or ITIL certification advantageous.
