Empowering the community and enabling seamless connectivity at the 2025 Santa Maria Challenge

In sponsoring this year’s Santa Maria Fishing Challenge (12-16 May 2025), Paratus Mozambique, a leading telecommunications solutions provider, is once again demonstrating its commitment to community upliftment and connectivity in remote regions. As part of its sponsorship of this prestigious fishing event, Paratus Mozambique is providing internet services throughout the challenge and has donated a full year of free Starlink internet connectivity for the administrative post and region of Santa Maria.

Located on the Machangulo Peninsula, in the southernmost part of Mozambique near Maputo, Santa Maria is known for its rich marine biodiversity and world-class big game fishing. The 2025 Santa Maria Challenge has attracted 28 boats and 150 fishermen, with fishing conducted under IGFA rules, and in trolling and drift fishing categories. Every evening, over 200 guests are expected to gather for the social events at Bemugis Sunset, making it a lively celebration of sport and community.

For this year’s fishing competition, Paratus Mozambique has:

  • Donated a Starlink kit for exclusive use during the fishing challenge to facilitate real-time data sharing and coordination among participants.
  • Equipped the Paratus team’s boat, Rafealla, with the High Performance kit to ensure full connectivity and mobility throughout the event.
  • Provided Paratus Wi-Fi at the Bemugis event area, where the sales team will also be activating the Starlink offer and engaging directly with attendees.
  • Arranged for the display and sale of Starlink kits at the event, alongside the promotion of other Paratus products.
  • Supplied official event shirts featuring the Santa Maria Challenge and sponsor logos, including fishing sweatshirts, branded T-shirts and caps for the competitors, and standard T-shirts for the organizers and the community.
  • Offered low-cost merchandise for the community as part of their broader outreach

In empowering the broader community, Paratus has also donated a year of free Starlink internet access at the Santa Maria administrative post, which serves as the central point of the community.  This will benefit essential services such as healthcare, education and small businesses by providing vital connectivity for this remote area.

Country Manager of Paratus Mozambique Rui Costa says: “We’re proud to continue supporting both the Santa Maria community and this standout fishing event. Connectivity is critical — not just for the smooth operation of large-scale events like this, but for real, long-term transformation in communities that have been previously disconnected. This sponsorship is part of our broader mission to build Africa’s digital future.”
