Not exactly a piece of cake – How Paratus Botswana is championing a complex market

It’s nine years since Paratus opened its doors in Botswana. What started as a lean, local start-up in a fast-moving and highly competitive telecoms industry has grown into an 80-strong team, 95% of whom are Batswana, and a fast-growing business that now serves business and residential customers across the country with quality network services.  From building metro fiber networks in key locations to deploying radio and satellite links in underserved areas, Paratus Botswana has already carved some impressive milestones and is now busy installing new infrastructure that will increase capacity for both homes and businesses and enhance virtual hosting options for local enterprises.

“The telecoms space in Botswana is anything but forgiving. It’s regulated, capital-intensive and driven by rapid change and ever-rising expectations. As a new player without legacy infrastructure or established brand recognition, Paratus faced pressure to deliver and evolve quickly,” says Managing Director, Shawn Bruwer.

Perseverance and steady progress have paid off; Paratus Botswana (which is part of the pan-African telco Paratus Group) can now boast its reputation as a national trusted network provider. As Bruwer adds: “We are committed to investing in infrastructure and service to drive progress and provide quality connectivity to as many businesses and people as possible.”
