Paratus Telecommunications recently participated in and supported the 2026 HATAB Annual Conference, an event that brought together stakeholders across Botswana’s hospitality and tourism industry.
This year’s theme, Redefining Tourism Strategies to Reshape Botswana’s Tourism Landscape, reflects a sector that is evolving in both expectation and delivery. As operators adapt, connectivity continues to play a central role in how services are delivered, managed and experienced.
Across hotels, lodges, guesthouses and B&Bs, reliable connectivity underpins day to day operations, from booking systems and payments to guest Wi-Fi access, security and internal communication. Paratus supports the sector with a range of connectivity services, including reliable internet, managed Wi-Fi, network security, hosted solutions and business voice services. These solutions are designed to integrate into operations, improve performance and support the overall guest experience.
In more remote locations, where traditional infrastructure can be limited, the approach shifts. Flexible options such as satellite connectivity allow operators to extend reliable access into areas that are otherwise difficult to reach. Paratus offers both low earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary (GEO) satellite solutions, depending on the requirements of the site, with priority support and local technical expertise to ensure consistent performance in these environments.
A key message from the conference, emphasised by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Wynter Mmolotsi, was that the future of Botswana’s tourism sector will be shaped by partnership, shared purpose, technology and collective effort. This reinforces the critical importance of collaboration across the entire value chain, including the vital role of infrastructure and service providers. Reflecting on the event, Duduetsang Baikalafhi, Paratus Botswana’s Sales Manager, noted, “This sector is key to sustaining the economy in the wake of declining mineral revenue. Engaging with stakeholders at the conference gave us a better understanding of the challenges and priorities across the sector. Those conversations will be valuable in shaping how we approach our service offerings, ensuring solutions that assist operators in re-igniting the economy.”
As Botswana continues to strengthen tourism as a key driver of economic growth, the need for reliable, adaptable connectivity will remain essential.
