Paratus Promotes Youth Cycling in Botswana

Later this month, kids and their parents are in for a thrilling time at this year’s Bike Shredders Challenge, when children between the ages of 5 and 16 will show off their mountain bike prowess.  For the second year, Paratus Botswana is the headline sponsor of this bike race event.  Up to 100 kids are expected to compete in the 2023 Bike Shredders Challenge on 27 May 2023 at Kgale Hill in Gaborone.  Entries are still open for the 5, 10 and 20km races.

The Bike Shredders Challenge was founded in 2019 by Lifecycle Bicycle Coaching & Tuition. Through its sponsorship of P76,000, Paratus will cover, among others, the costs for medical support (by Rescue One), all the route marking and clearing materials, and the trophies and medals.

The sponsorship of this event is a testament to the commitment of the pan-African telco, Paratus, to the broader community and to developing young talent. It reflects the brand’s values and the company’s “Paratus Social Investment” (PSI) goals, in terms of providing children with the opportunity to realise their potential and promote their confidence – both on and off the bike. Gobona Mantle is the 39-year-old female owner of and coach with Lifecycle Bicycle Coaching and Tuition, who realised that her passion for mountain biking could combine with her teaching qualifications to mentor and develop children in the sport.

“As a company, we are passionate about supporting sports development amongst our youth,” says the Country Manager of Paratus Botswana, Shawn Bruwer. “Kids love this event.  It is exciting and gives them a chance to test their talent and compete in a safe and supportive environment. It also gives them something to aim for and to be rewarded for their ability.  Our sponsorship of the Bike Shredders Challenge reflects our company’s mission to develop and connect people by helping to unleash and recognise their potential. We wish all the participating kids loads of luck and fun on the day.”
